We spent the day in Raleigh. In the morning we went to the state capitol. During four hours we spent time with three different official guides and learned a whole lot about lots of stuff. The building was designed by Thomas Jefferson in a neo-classical style. It was the first government building in the style and it set a standard. Lots of government buildings thereafter employed this style of architecture.
After lunch we went to the Museum of the Confederacy. It was very interesting. We also took a tour of the Confederate White House. We spent almost an hour going through it with a guide that had lots of interesting things to say. Outside the museum were two artifacts that I found very interesting, both from the CSS Virginia (AKA Merrimack). One was the anchor and the other was the propeller shaft.
