Bucket List Item!!! Today we traveled to l'Anse aux Meadows, the site of the earliest authenticated western European settlement in the new world. I am sure there are those out there who may pooh pooh it, but as far as I am concerned this is freaking cool. I remember in the early 60s when this place was discovered and excavated. Imagine, a settlement in the North American continent which is 1000 years old. We got lucky with nice weather and I found the extent of the settlement to be interesting. There were hundreds of people here. They even smelted bog iron. This was an unforgettable day for me.

John you are right. This is a plain looking place, but when you know the history it becomes a fantastic place.
Knowledge is good.
