This was a very exciting day. This morning the boat stopped early at the dock in Bartlet Cove at Glacier Bay National Park to pick up a Ranger and a Native Interpreter. This was the coolest stop on our honeymoon 40 years ago. We were very excited because the day's activiity was an all day trip up Glacier Bay to see critters and glaciers. We saw puffins, humpback whales, sea lions and lots of birds. Although the day started out rainy, when we arrived at Margerie Glacier the sun was out and we had a spectacular view of the glacier. The captain was able to maneuver to about a quarter mile from the face of the glacier. We just stood there watching and enjoying the view. Occasionally there would be some calving which was accompanied with loud bangs that sounded like gun shots.

On the long trip back to Bartlett Cove, we relaxed and stopped for another glacier and for some critters. Once back at Glacier bay Lodge we went ashore for a little hike with the ranger. Ginny and I remembered what the forest looked like from our previous trip in 1974. It is a temperate rain forest with a moss covered floor. It looks very lush.
