My scanning project continues. As of today, I have finished 172 rolls and 4300 images. The retrospective into our photographic past has been very interesting to me. The subject matter is certainly great. One thing, though, has really got my attention. It is the overall quality of the images. I thought of myself as a photographer, but from this ongoing review of my past, I would have to say that I was really more of a snap-shooter.

The advent of digital imagery has driven most people to one of two opposite poles. For me, I have really become mush better at both the technical and compositional aspects of photography. I think that is because you get your image immediately and can learn and make corrections if you are so inclined. I am so inclined. During my digital years the quality of my photos has improved markedly. The other pole is the "selfie" group as I call them. Put a camera in a phone and people will start using it. All you have to do is look at Facebook and you realize that the vast majority of photos uploaded to the web are pretty shitty. Maybe that is a style which will be somehow appreciated in the future, but I doubt it.

As I look at the photos I am scanning, I keep telling myself, "If you had only....., you would have had a very nice photograph." But once in a while a really nice one comes along, and that is my photo of the day. Ginny and David were goofing around and paused for a photo. Thank god I was there to capture it. One of my all time favorites.
