There is plenty of down time when we are visiting on the farm. I took the opportunity to start trimming out photos that I didn't need. I use Lightroom, which I like a lot. I started with the oldest ones and just started deleting unwanted frames. I was amazed that I sometimes took the exact same composition and exposure many times. I don't know what I was thinking at the time. Those were the easy ones to eliminate. I also had tons of airplane photos where the airplane was just too far away to make a useful exposure. Those were also easy to cull. I also had lots of photos which were just technically crappy, out of focus or motion blurred. They all went to the trash. I managed to get through two years worth of archive and reduced my number of photos from 86,500 to 79,500. It also bought me and additional 16 gigs of drive space. I have a long way to go to get the project done, but at least I made a good start. From now on I am going to do the culling when I download the pictures. That will save a lot of time and space in the future.

p.s. If anyone is using Lightroom 3, let me know what you think. I plan to upgrade eventually.

Dave - you could cut the volume by 67% if you didn't bracket every shot. just sayin'

Logical solution Dave, take less photos, and with the time saved, you can take more time on the photography and get better shots.
Thats the plan I am working on.

I just finished auditing shots from my June 2011 trip. Now to do the ones from the October trip. Even with Lightroom 2.5, the work is never-ending! I gotta do things differently...
