We flew to the Galapagos Islands today and went aboard this yacht, the Tip Top III. It was to be our home for a full two weeks. During this adventure we had zero contact with the outside world, so I didn't get to post anything on pbase. Our experience was unbelievably cool. I took lots of photos and will work through them and get them posted. My first intention is to get caught up on what I did today.
Anyway, we made only one landing today since we arrived at lunch time. It was at Bahia Bachas where we got a first look at marine iguanas, boobys and Sally Lightfoot crabs. Since we had no idea what was in store for the rest of the trip, everybody got into photo mania mode and photographed everything pretty much indiscriminately. This bay is on the north side of the island of Santa Cruz.
Our group was only 10 people which was nice. The maximum size of a tour group is 16 according to Galapagos National Park rules. The yacht was operated very professionally. Our guide was the legendary Etienne de Backer, whom we called ET at his insistence. The tour director was the founder of Galapagos Travel, Barry Boyce. There is no better combination to make the visit a real learning experience and very enjoyable.
