We traveled to Cotopaxi National Park today. It is about 80 kilometers south of Quito. Unfortunately, the weather was overcast, so we never did get to see the mountain. We did have a nice hike around Lake Limpiopungo and saw some birds and plants. It was pretty cold and windy. Driving to and in the park, once we left the Pan American highway, was very rough. It was all dirt road with lots of potholes and washboarding. Also there were a couple small river crossings. The highlight of the day was lunch. We went to a remote part of the park to an area called Tambopaxi where there was a little restaurant. The food was good and the view was terrific. We dawdled there for quite a while just exjoying the experience. We had a long drive back to Quito and had a good time just talking with the guide and learning more about Ecuador.
