I was reading somewhere recently about photography (what a surprise). I don't remember who it was, but they were saying that they shoot in their own back yard a lot, the thought being that a good photographer can find interesting light, composition and context just about anywhere. I figured that my back yard qualified as just about anywhere, so I went out looking. I started looking at leaves in the sweet gum tree. They were backlit by the sun. As I started snapping I noticed that there were interesting shadows of the leaves on themselves as well as interesting vein structures. Also, I noted that entropy was definitely increasing (that was added for the frustrated physicists who might read this.) So I snapped a bunch of frames, playing with dof as well. I sat down and started going through the pictures in Lightroom. It looked like the usual "yup, thats a bunch of leaves" shots until I started looking at crops. This is what emerged. It captured the shadows and leaf structure I was thinking about when I was shooting. Not an award winner, but certainly worth my effort.
