Very close call.
23 06 2008 John Victor Cooper

Very close call.

Wandsworth Bridge, London view map

The tug pushing the barge full of sand, came through the arch sideways.
The man on the bow had a long pole to keep the barge from hitting the bridge.
About 200 tons moving quite quickly, not a chance of stopping it.
For a few seconds, I thought I was going to get some good bridge demolition pictures.

You have to admire the optimism of the guy with the pole. :-)

Its all sand Maire, for the huge amount of building going on nearby.
That barge is right on the limit for weight to be carried.

Very interesting. Are they importing mini-pyramids? :>)
