Eastern Hognose Snake

Falls Lake, Raleigh, North Carolina

This 4' snake is non-venomous but acts like a real mean dude. When threatened, it spreads flaps on the side of it's head, which makes it look like a cobra.

other sizes: small medium original auto

If you really spook them (as in won't go away) they'll often turn belly up and play dead! - Miguel

Looks like sleek, modern carbon fiber. Wonder if it knows it's imitating a cobra. Nice shot.

Looks like it could scare the pants off most people stumbling on it by mistake!
