This species is expected to be completely removed from the endangered species list throughout
its natural range. Brown Pelicans and other large birds were under threat from the use of DDT and
other chemicals in the middle of the twentieth century. It has been noted that the prohibition of the
use of DDT has cost the lives of 50 million humans.
