2008-08-23 Mice on Main Street, Greenville, South Carolina
2008-08-23 We walked down Main Street, Greenville, SC, (my home town) locating and photographing the bronze mice.
As a senior project, Jimmy Ryan proposed the idea of placing the mice downtown for children to find. He raised the funding and commissioned Zan Wells, a local sculptor, to make the individual mice. A bronze sculpture of the book (Goodnight Moon, from where the mice idea arose) and mouse #1 are mounted on the fountain in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, and the other eight mice are installed along a nine-block stretch of Main Street between the Hyatt and the Westin Poinsett Hotel. Each mouse is about 3 inches long -- about the size of a real mouse...
It was a lot of fun discovering where the mice were hidden (some in plain view - some not), and we got lots of looks from passers-by while we were prone on the sidewalk making our photographs.
What a fun gallery, too bad you did not get photos of the folks watching you! What cute mice, very nice bronzes... I hope none got run over. Does Zan make bronze rats....love to get one to watch over Mr. Soul http://www.pbase.com/cits_4_pets/my_rats) & his ratty kids .V
