The local village market that we visited at Ywama was not the floating market, but the one on land next to the Phaung Daw U Pagoda. It was one of the so-called "Five-Day-Markets" around Inle Lake, which rotate between different villages on Inle Lake over five days. Villagers come from far and wide to sell their wares at these markets.
The picture shows an elderly woman from one of the hill tribes selling vegetables at the market. I am not absolutely sure, but think she is of the Shan ethnic minority group, because of the turban and sober black blouse and trousers (instead of longyi) that she wore.
