Just getting to Drake Bay wilderness area can be an adventure all it's own. First, get yourself to San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica. Then, charter with an air taxi service over the mountains via GPS (almost due south) into Drake Bay Aeropuerto Internationale. Often, divers will pack everything into a single wheelpack, and if the load limits of the plane aren't that of FedEx, some gear arrives the next day. This puts you within range of a dilapidated blue jeep to take you via dirt road and a couple of high water crossings through 3-4 miles of rain forest to a small stream flowing toward the Pacific ocean. Load everything onto a small boat surrounded by swamp reeds and make your way toward the Pacific, where you then offload the small boat, pack over a small hill and down toward a beach area. Here, a larger boat comes ashore between some rather large ocean waves crashing over offshore volcanic boulders, load gear and cross Drake Bay to a small boat dock and lodge area. You don't get there accidently.
