I didn't have much luck (or skill) yesterday. The turtles got away for the most part ( http://www.pbase.com/jenfu/image/41746194 ).
As I drove by this lake today, I saw five turtles on that same log. Ahhh, I had a second chance!
This time, I moved with stealth, first taking an alternate path that would let me flank them in a way that the sun would be at my back. I would move carefully from rock to log to avoid crumbling the dry leaves on the ground. I almost blew it when a pricker bush branch grabbed me but I neutralized it.
Oops, I lost first 1 turtle, then another. The other three, for some reason known only to the turtles, stayed on the log.
I fired off a few shots and changed my position. After another few photos, I gained the courage to move closer. Just as the last three turtles retreated, I captured this photo.
I think, for the most part, today was a success!
Hunting turtles isn't as easy as I would have thought. I have a new respect for them!
Maybe I should stay with photographing rocks.
