This day was loaded with fish and bears. We actually also took a hike up to an overlook on Mt. Dumpling (about 2 miles each way from the lodge and 800 foot elevation gain). I will include photos from the hike in a "Scenic Photos" gallery. At the river and falls, this day was all about catching and eating fish as you will see in the photos here. It was very obvious that some bears really knew how to fish, or at least they knew how to fish a certain spot well. Some did well on top of the falls, others sat in the "jacuzzi" (bubbles below the falls) and waited for a fish to touch their paws. Still others would wander around below the falls with their head under water looking for fish and pounce when they saw one. The rest made do with scraps, or stole from younger bears.
It really was unbelievable to see so many fish being caught by the bears. The most we saw was around 12 bears at one time. Some of the rangers there said they have seen 20-30 at once. Still I have no regrets at all about the trip, and would love to go back some day!
