Finding this site has been enjoyable! Even if I had to wait until I was 71 years old to find it! I completed my combat arms detail with the Infantry as a rifle platton leader, weapons platoon leader, and then company XO with Co A, 2/15th Inf, 3rd Inf Div (Mech), at Wildflecken in late 1971, transferred to Camp King. I was assigned as the Asst S-2/3 Officer for USARGE, then later assigned to the Exercises Division in SPO at TRANSCOM (later reflagged as 4th Trans Bde). Left Camp King in June 1975. Remember the Hotel Blick and the disco, Franz and Fritz running the Officers Club at Camp King, and so much more! Great memories of days gone by! --Wm. G. Blissett, LTC, USA, ret.

To Bob Lamb, I got to Camp King right after you left. I was also stationed at CCO with Steve Scouten and Milton Pruitt. Steve and I were in the same office for way over a year. That was a great place to be stationed. I spent lot of time at the EM club behind our office bldg. Notifying troops when their port call was appeared to be a good job. I was the first female MP sent to the 570th MP platoon in the summer of 1976. The 570th was in Frankfurt at that time, then was relocated to Camp King, Oberursel shortly after that. I served there until 1979 and lived for a year in the female communications barracks up on the hill.

My husband, Sfc Edward Tkacz, was stationed at Camp King in the 513th Mil.Int.Corp Grp. from 1959 to 1962. I and our three sons, Ed, Mike and Patrick, joined him there, and it was a great posting. I remember Fred Schloss, his brother, mom and dad who were on the third flr of Bldg 1047 when we lived on the 2nd flr. Great place for a family. I was an aide to the teacher at the Nursery School we ran, Ed and Mike learned their Latin and were alter boys at the chapel, and I was eventually Pres of the NCO Wives Club. Col. Ross was Post Commander, and our boys knew and played with his son, Doug Ross. Their daughter got married while on the Post, and we were invited to the wedding. Ed was in QM Intelligence while at Camp King, but also served as the mgr of the Camp King Little League baseball team, and won the Frankfurt Post Little League championship I think in 1962. My sons still have the trophy. Ed was also secretary of the Men's Bowling League at the little 4 lane bowling center. He eventually took the after duty hours job of managing that bowling center, and I occasionally worked as cashier. Ed, who was a WWII and Korean War veteran retired in 1964, two years after we left Camp King. His last post was at the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia. He became a bowling center manager in civilian life, our family eventually went into the bowling business and owned centers in South Jersey. Ed passed away in 1999, we all miss him, of course, but I think some of our best years were spent at Camp King.

Stationed are Camp King 9/66-3/68. As Norm Ubungen said being assigned at Camp King truly meets the saying "Life is Good!"
Norman remember you well, (S1 also) one of the activities you failed to mention was the role you played as mentor/advisor for newly assigned personnel; excuse for not mentioning their names out of respect for their privacy. Hope all is well and thank you for the good memories.

I am an old "Army Brat" and lived at Camp King from 1967-1968. My father was Sgt. Major Richard I. Walker, (yes, I know he was a hard A$$, lol). My older sister worked on base as a civilian, Gail Walker and met her future husband there, Bernie Robinson. I have wonderful memories of my time there. I remember standing at attention and facing towards the hill as the flag was lowered and raised. The smell of fresh baked brotchen rolls coming from the little shop right off Post. The beautiful German style houses on the hill, with their secrect jail cells and tunnels underneath them. Fishing at the pond up in the hills outside of Post and exploring the fortress remains. The winter before we left, all the GI's and Post families got together and tried to make an ice skating rink, in the field next to the barracks. I was stationed at Camp King from 9/64 - 6/67. Best duty station in the World. Worked at S1 and played several sports, (Flag Football and Softball). Was Col.Gerald Davis's Driver during field alerts and ran the Officer PT Testing for a couple of years. I was the first Filipino guy who married a Filipina Nurse(one of 78 Exchange Nurses) assigned at the Kreiskrankenhaus in Bad Homburg. Dr.Gentry was a friend and from S1 we knew everyone and controlled everything.

I was a 2nd LT and was assigned as the S1/Adjutant for USARGE (US ARMY Reception Group Europe) at Camp King from Feb 1971-Spring 1972 I believe. My wife (Marlene) and I along with our baby boy (Scott) lived in the "maids" quarters housing for a few months before being transferred to TASCOM in Worms until we departed for the US in 1974. We loved Camp King area (Officers Club and restaurants in the area - Especially Oberstaden).

I was a student at FIS and then FHS from 1969 to 1973. We lived not far from Camp King but hung out there all the time. The Gym, movie theater and the Officers Club. The above picture 3570 shows an empty Officers Club. There was a table that was backed up to the post there where my family often sat. Brings back great memories. Steve Fontaine

I was stationed at Camp King, USATRANSCOM, 1970, working under LTC Lester O. Styvie, CWO Yeates, SSG Wilson, Cpt. Eanes, and SGM Llyod Norman. The post made the Army a pleasant experience considering it was during the time of Vietnam. I remember the EM Club, Mess, Barracks, Offices, Bowling Alley, Theater, Etc. If there is anyone out there from during that time I would like to share. Most of my pictures are on slides. I spent one year there to the day.

One of my old bosses was an ex german soldier. He knew his his telephone office. Read the book of Hans Schriff who was the master interrogator at Camp King during WWII. I had come to Camp King from Vietnam. What a difference.

I couldn't have been assigned to a better duty than as a rail MP. Arrived in may 1982, left december 1983. I wouldn't trade my time there for anything...Rick Emry was my first barracks mate...looked after me...helped me along. A few of the names I remember... corny blanson...kevin fitspatrick, don shultz, carl cropper, rob dillon...used to play basketball with terry respress and mo' williams. The barge missions were the best vacation! Nearly froze to death on a couple mission before the fancy guard car's arrived...

What a great experieince I had riding the rails, floating the Rehine on a barge, or giving ski instruction in Garmish for the AFRC. It's sad that the Camp has been plowed over and developed

I served with the 570th MP's from Feb 79 to Oct 81. Attached to the HQ/HQ company of 4th Trans Brigade. We escorted clasified/sensitive material all over Europe, most missions began by taking the duty train north to Bremerhaven/Nordenham and 73 missions later,I had traveled thousands of miles by rail, barge, truck and vehicle to Italy, Belgium and all over West Germany. Great memories and a couple of hundred photos to re-visit. Camp King was always a welcome return, and your photos remind of the good times that I had there.

Served in Plans from January 69-Nov 70-trained Heavy Duty (Tom) Heaver as my replacement before I shipped to Vietnam. Our mailman was Wayne Hollingshead-and we shipped to Nam together and still go to each other's kids' weddings-to be honest, these pictures do not even begin to remind me of what I knew as Camp King. Seems like a thousand years ago. Have heard nothing from Warren Glenn, but saw Sergeant Gilliam in Nam and heard from Lt. Putnam who wound up in Thailand. Last I heard, Lt. Gribble discharged in Germany-never knew if he ever went back home.

I remember you only through talking to my brother.Some of the kids I played with were Doug/Douggie Ross and there was a girl I hung out with.I can't remember her real first name but we/I called her thumper or carrot top cause she had red/orange hair and she lived on the Hill too.I think when we first moved there we lived in 1051 or 1050 temporarily in the top/Attic and then moved to the hill into 1040.I was only in the First thru Third grade when I lived there,six thru eight years old so I don't recall a whole lot of the time there.Just remember bits and pieces.Do remember going out into the woods in back of the Hill/North and roaming around lol.Greg and I would go to a place out there that had Deer in a Park/Zoo like setting.I do remember eating some of the fruit off the trees.I think they were called Mirabelle and we called them mirabellums.Orange plums and we would climb into the trees to pick and eat them.Also we used to sneak into the old Officers club and go all the way upstairs and then to the attic and look around at all the old stuff up there.Well guess I'll stop rambling here and save more of the pics.Had them before but lost them on another PC.

I worked in the public affairs office from 1985 to 1986 as a specialist. I worked with a really nice German receptionit named Rita Delacruz Mercado. I worked with SFC Roach and Major Keating. We also had two female reporters Terri Sheetz and Tiffany I think. It has been a long time. What a wonderful place Camp King was and I won't forget it. I had forgetten all about Camp King. We used to go there for shower runs while training with my signal brigade, 440th signal, up in the nearby mountains and forest. This was during the spring of 73. I think it was during reforger IV. Thanks for the memories.

Worked on Camp King from 1978 - 1985 and loved every minute of it. Your pictures are great of the Officers Club, the Chapel, Doc Rowalds office, the 570th barracks and the NCO barracks from up on the hill. I worked in ACofS, P&A the whole time I was stationed there. I remember Donnie Conti's Dad and my kids played with his kids at the playground when we would all come into camp. We lived on the economy in New Anspach. Though Irish, I worked as a local national at Camp King from 1972 to 1987. I have many great memories and made wonderful friends there. I also knew George and Janie Kuntz well and remember them and their family fondly.

Your sister baby sat our daughter Jennifer while we lived there. You were just a young kid at the time. We have fond memories of the place. It was quite the party place, too. Did any of the interrogation procedures involve equipment other than polygraph machines? My earlier post immediately before this one describes a bit about why I'm looking for this kind of info.

I was never at Camp King but know someone who was there from 1957 to 1959. He was a draftee and assigned duties in a DEFSIP office and also as a driver. This fellow is claiming he was 'putting electrodes to the heads' of people there as part of the screening of scientists for immigration to the US. My understanding is that the only machinesused in theinterrogation procedures were polygraph machines and that the operators were CID personnel trained at the Army's polygraph school stateside in either Georgia or Alabama.I'm also given to understand that no untrained draftee buck-private would ever have been tasked as an interrogator.

Is there anyoneperusingthissite who can help shed light on these matters. The fellow I'm referring to is a known fabricator of all sorts of things about himself and he's been claiming for some years now that the Army trained him, in Germany, to do something caled EEG biofeedback. Senior CID people tell me this is nonsense, but I wonder if any of you who were there on the ground at Camp King could fill in more of the details for me.

I have fond memories of Camp King. Was station there from 1974 until 1978. I spent 12 years in Germany and always called Camp King my home. Visited it many times during those twelve years. Looking for any one that remember "Jimmy Lee". Hello Joe and Katja Collier.

i lived at camp king in 1980-84 my daddy was a commander at the time...all these pict look different from what i remember..i remember a playground and it was in back of m building

My assignment to Camp King, in 1960, was without doubt the best of my 20-year military carrier. For three years, I was an interrogator at what became perhaps the most famous (infamous)interrogation centers in the world. It was in the cards. Camp King had been used first by the Germans during WWII and later by the Americans. If anyone would like to read a short essay on my work as an interrogator, write me.

I was stationed at Camp King 1971-1972 working in HQ MCA. Alot of memories from "Campus Rex". It would be good to hear from anyone stationed there during that time period. Nice job on these pics. Several buildings appear to have been reconditioned from the time I was there.

I WAS STATIONED AT CAMP KING FROM 1970 TO 1973.I WAS A MECHANIC WITH HHC.TRANSCOM.I HAD SOME OF THE BEST FRIENDS THAT COULD EVER BE WANTED.I REMEMBER BOB LAMB.I WAS SOME-WHAT DISSAPOINTED THAT CAMP KING HAS BEEN DONE AWAY WITH.JUST SO MANY MEMORIES WITH FRIENDS.THE CAMP IS GONE BUT I STILL HAVE THE MEMORIES AND THE PICTURES.DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE GERMANS THAT WORKED AT THE MOTOR POOL.HEINZ WILD AND ALBERT SACKMANN.I WAS AT CAMP KING ON LEAVE IN 74 ON A REFORGER EXERCISE FROM FT.RILEY AND ONE OF THE GERMANS THERE MR.NEUMANN HAD A HEART ATTACK AT DIED THE DAY I GOT THERE.ANY WAY THANKS FOR THE PICTURES AND THE WALK BACK TO SOME OF THE VERY BEST TIMES.

I was stationed at Camp King from June 69 to Jan 71. I worked for the Central Control Office of Transcom. We basically sent people home. I drove to Frankfurt and the airport twice a day. It was a great place to be stationed. The people were friendly and we loved to travel around. I was pleased to find this website. Thanks for the pictures.

I lived on Camp King from 1960 to 1964. First in temporary quarters in Building 1048, then on the third floor of Building 1047, and finally in Building 1051 on the second floor. My best friend at first was Greg Passmore, whose father was an eye surgeon. I wonder is Steve is any relation to Greg.

I went back in 1985. The pasture behind 1051 was full of high rise apartments, obstructing the view of the Feldberg that we had when we lived there. The post was still beautiful, however.

Yeah brings back the memories.I lived there when i was 6 thru 8 years old.My dad was stationed there,he was an eye Dr.He was a officer and we lived up on the hill by the Officer club in the Yellow houses for officers.Seeing what they look like now in your pics is spooky.On the satellite maps i see the yellow house's are gone. We lived there summer of 1957 to summer of 1960 then he was transfered to Fort Lewis,Wa.then to Walter Reed. Thanks for sharing the pics.Was great to see them. Steve

Randy Molho I was stationed at Camp King as an MP from 1966 to 1969 and had the pleasure of being there during the Viet Nam war. Looking at the pictures of the old officer's club brings back a lot of memories. Apart from the club being is a state of disrepair as compared to the old days, what I really miss seeing on the top of the weather vane is the old emblem of the 3rd Reich with the eagle and swastika that used to be there (strictly from a collector's point of view). When I was stationed there I always had the dream of removing it and shipping the weather vane home, but I didn't have the guts to try it or the spiked boots to climb the steep roof. Someone has it stashed in their attic, I'm sure of it!

I was an MP on Camp King starting in June 1966 until 513th closed in Oct.Nov 1968. See other Camp King web site that whas old photo's of how it was as a military base, great site. I went back in June 2007, barely recognized the place, only a few buildings left, Officer's Club, Dispensary, MP building,(we slept up ststairs)

My dad was the chaplain at Camp King from 1977-1980, and we had a great time there as a family. Wednesday nights were pizza night at the O-Club and that interior shot of the pillars brings back memories.

My Grandmother worked at Camp King from 1967-1982. Her name was Waltraut [Jennie] Graentz. She worked as a civilian administrator under Mr. Curtis. She loved her job, and the people there. If you worked with her, chances are I know you, or have heard of you. Please contact. Thank you!

Such a shame what happened to this post....

The place was full of History...

The buildings some date back to WW2..the landscape...all of it's originality is all but gone.

It makes me sick to see these pictures.

I was stationed at Camp King twice and they were the happiest times of my life. The first time from 1986-1988 and again from 1991-1993. I loved every minute of it and would love to be able to go back!! Thanks for the great pictures!! The building in pictures 2004-002 and 2004-011 is where I worked as a computer programmer during my first tour, I'm glad to see it wasn't torn down, thanks for posting them!!

I lived on Camp King from February 1967 until December 1969 and enjoyed every minute as a guest of the fine people who lived and worked on Camp King and in Oberursel. I enjoyed seeing the photos of the new homes and facilities that have been built since we were stationed there. Thank you for taking the time to share the pictures with us all.

I was stationed at Camp King from Aug 1964 to March 1967 with the 5135th MI Group. Worked in the S2 office, processing security clearances. Enjoyed Germany, but have never been able to return and see how things are now. I have enjoyed the websites I've found - lots of memories.

I was stationed at Camp King from 1985-1987 in the 570th Military Police Platoon. Thank you for the pictures. I returned to Camp King for a visit in 1998 and nothing had changed like now. Th picture 2004_002 is of the Military Police admin building. WOW, I wish I had a dollar for every pushup I done in that yard!I remember going to the small Imbuss Soloniki(Stephen's I think) on the corner near Camp King and the "Pizza Place" near there. It was an amazing place!

I was stationed with HHC 22nd Signal Brigade at Camp King from 1990-1992. I stayed in Germany, living another 7 years in Oberursel and then moving to Frankfurt, where I live now. I have a local friend I met while in the Army who grew up just outside the camp and who now owns (with her husband) one of the new apartments in the complex.

On my second tour, my family and I lived in Building 1048 in the housing area on Camp King. What a beautiful place to live. I made it a point to meet the German people on this tour and now have so many friends in this great country.
I worked at the 97th General Hospital ( Pharmacy Section ) and drove or took the U-Bahn in each day to Frankfurt.
I have returned several times and it has changed much.
I will go back again and cannot wait.

I was in a telephone communications unit in Darmstadt from 1978 - 1981. Every year my army squat would put in telephones all over Camp King for special training in the nearby woods. I look at many of these pictures and remember laying wire and cable across the building rooftops and through yards. It is nice to remember Camp King again.
