The title takes me back to the 1950s: before street barricades had flashing yellow warning lights, round metal oil lamps were used to delineate the edge of construction sites. They burned kerosene or something similar. If memory serves me right (highly debatable), they were about eight inches tall. The meager flames of the lamps were often accompanied by black smoke.
