Thursday Challenge - Breaking the rules

Copenhagen, Denmark

Changed my pad to this shot of my daughter, Kirstine, as it deals with one of the "rules" I hate the most: cropping/framing to the absolute essentials. IMO, this "rule" often lead to incredibly claustrophobic images. Of course, this only goes to show that the perception of what the "absolute essentials" is is relative - and, of course, *that* only goes to show that to "break a rule" is often just to ignore a silly convention (or to liberate oneself from it).

Nice shot, Jannik. Photography rules, seemingly enforceable by many, should be broken every chance you get.

love it!

You missed the thirds rule, so you really messed this one up. Actually a very nice shot.

Sometimes it's better to not know the rules and shoot what you like!

Well there's no distracting elements so I guess you can include as much or as little space as you like! I think your choice helps make your little one look more to scale.

Rules are 'made' to be broken. I like this. Pretty daughter.

Agree with Beverly - this little cutie will dish out rule challenges all her own some day. Great face.

Thought the rule was: Don´t take it from the ground and put it into your mouth. This is a lovely and beautiful portrait, Jannik. v

One of your best shots and one of my favourites for sure.
Expression and pose and wide frame are perfect! Print it big!

Its a delightful shot, the big space just makes your little boy look smaller & cuter..

You just take the best shots of those babies - regardless of what rule you are breaking! Voted

LOL, Laine! Obviously, the father is breaking a rule too: Never photograph the children when you should be concentrating on their health or security :-) BTW, Eckhart - the boy is a girl :-))
