Castor Bay and Milford, North Shore, Auckland

I had a wonderful childhood growing up in this area - this beach is Castor Bay, and Milford, in the distance, on the other side of a river, is where I lived from the age of 4 until I married.

I grew up living on Campbell's Bay Beach, 1948 and family left 1960 (why would anyone leave there? our address was 18 The Esplanade, Campbell's Bay. What an idyllic childhood my sister and I had there. My grandparents bought 3 sections of beach property in the early 1940s, but lived in Auckland. I remember the bamboo forest on the south side of The Esplanade, walking "round the rocks" to Mairangi Bay and rushing back before high tide. Went to St. Anne's School on Takapuna Beach and Campbell's Bay School. Would love to hear from anyone with memories of this area in the 1950s.

My dream to live near the sea - we then retired to almost the centre of France about as far from the sea as it's possible to get! Happy memories for you.
