The Shortest Walkabout 02/12/2006

I just noticed these photos the other day while looking for something completely different, and though that it would be a shame not to post these photos of God's wonderful creation.

The reason this is the shortest walkabout was that I drove to this park and just walked around snapping these flowers. These were all taken using my Nikon D50 with my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 lens. This lens allows focusing as close as 35cm away from the focal plane (ie the sensor in a digital camera or the film in film camera), which creates great closeups with good back ground blur.

My lens is the "Macro" version and it is D-type (with an aperture ring) it works fine on an FM3a (which I'm borrowing from a friend) and manual focusing is fantastic with this lens. The size and weight of this lens is more suited to a heavier body like a D200 or F90X, but it's not too bad on my D50.

nice macros! question tho i am planning on getting the 24-70mm. i have wondering is your version the macro version?i am not 100% sure but i think there are two version to this lens. Macro version which doesn't have an aperture ring so its not suitable for film. and the version without the macro (but focuses close good) which has an aperture ring. Like you i would like the option to use on my FE nikon to.

also how does this lens feel on your d50, i have a d70 i am afriad becaouse of the weight of the lens will give an unbalance feel to my camera.
