0198 Looking down on fish ponds and rice paddies.

In this area fishponds are used extensively and most all households have at least one. The fish raised provide a valuable source of protein and function well within this landscape. Water from the rice fields often is channeled into the pond and the water from the pond feeds the rice paddy below it. Some fishponds are fed directly from small streams. Three distinct different types of fish were observed. One variety obtained a weight of approximately 1 kg, another type averaged 1/2 kg and a small fish was noted that was often found in the streams 5 to 6 cm long.
