This is located at the Chitwan National Park elephant breeding section. This female elephant has another baby that is about 2 years old. This younger baby was an acidental breeding to a wild elephant as this female was not going to be bred any longer due to her age. To me, she looks tired.

Oui... That is a very tender moment you captured here John. I hope the mother elephant will be able to find some ways to recuperate enough... The baby is very cute and the bond between the two is obvious and powerful, like the picture.

You are right about how worn out she looks. With a gestation period of nearly two years, she must have become pregnant within a couple months of the baby's birth. She will have needed to provide nourishment to both the fetus and the infant for that period. And doing that for two years would age most any of us.

Nevertheless, it's a wonderfully tender moment you caught here. Lovely!
