This is a recently cleared are that Wilbur Walter is using for his farm. There is good drainage but some of the soil appears to be fairly poor. Mr. Walter is investigating growing coffee, of which he has planted some, papaya and watermelon. Some of the coffee plants are robust while other show the stress of a possible pathogen and poor soil conditions.

There are 3 different species of coffee on Pohnpei. Mr. Walter's is hoping to introduce more species of coffee and will be clearing more area. The value of the soil and proper nutrients will be monitored.
