The abandoned monastery

Without a personal firm religious belief, I must still admit that I always get a bit touched when finding abandoned religious places such as this Spanish monastery. Well, maybe it's just a church or a chapel, but independent of what, the level of decay is just stunning. Guessing when it all sunk is not easy, but presumably it is a question of more than thirty years ago or more. It’s not like in Sweden, where the violent differences in seasons would have turned a building like this into a pile of rubble in this time frame.

A part of the fascination in exploring and photographing abandoned places is to put the pictures into a context with an accompanying story telling why it all went down, when and so forth. Often, there is a complex chain of events that can form a spectacular story. Without a story, I tend to guess or create one just for my personal peace of mind. In the case with the monastery, I have no clue actually.
