Gen. Winfield Scott later made a great general and was a hero of the Mexican War but he couldn't get a handle on the complexities of fighting the Indians in South Georgia and North Florida. Gen. Mark Willcox was glad to see him reassigned and out of the way. Scott intercepted his military supplies at Hawkinsville and left Gen. Willcox short-handed.
