Anson Dodge Preached Here

Anson Dodge, grandson of William Earl Dodge, had a tragic life himself. He lost his first wife, first cousin Ellen, on their honeymoon trip around the world. He stayed with her body in the hot uncomfortable hold of the ship, brought her back, and buried her in front of the pulpit here at Christ Church, St. Simons Island, Ga. She was later removed to the cemetery, accompanied there by other Dodges and John Forsyth, killed in the Dodge Land and Timber Trouble.

Dee, have you read Eugenia Price's other books? The Savannah Trilogy is my favourite. I am reading Ansons' story for the third time now.

After reading the trilogy of the Gould/Dodge families written by Eugenia Price, my husband and I are about to take a vacation trip to St. Simon's Island. In my heart, I will never forget the life story of Anson Green Phelps Dodge, Jr., after his visit to St. Simon's Island to visit his father, his marriage to his first love Ellen, her tragic death on their honeymoon, his bringing her back to St. Simon's Island, and rebuilding Christ Church in her honor, his remarriage some years later to Anna Gould Dodge, and the birth and death of his beloved son, Anson III. They will live in my memory and heart forever. I am anxious to see and feel their presence at Christ Church... even though I know it is not nearly as it was when they lived there, I am anxious to make the trip.
