Joseph Howell (my great great great grandfather) born about 1753-55 was a native of South Carolina, settled in what is now Bamberg County. His fourth child (first son)was Joseph Howell Jr. (my great great grandfather)b about 1787, his third wife was Harriet Allen, born about 1800 in South Carolina. Joe and Harriet's third child was William Daniel M. Howell (my great grandfather), born 6-27-1828 and married Elizabeth Martin. They moved to Lowndes Co. Georgia in 1847. Their daughter (my grandmother) Sarah Annie Howell married Cowper Irby Shelton and they lived in Valdosta, Georgia. their son (my father)Cyrus I. Shelton married Gladys West and lived most of their lives in Perry, GA. I am Charles Irby Shelton their third child and also live in Perry. I married Nelle Tuggle, we have four children, fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. All living in Perry. Please contact me for more information on the Shelton line.

My great-grandmother Mary Howell married Andrew Jackson Shelton in Erwin, TN. Date probably late 1860s. I wonder what locality Sarah Annie Howell and Cowper Shelton were from. I have no reason to think this is the same Howell family as mine. But I do wonder whether there were other intermarriages of Sheltons with the Howells.
Andrew Jackson Shelton is of the Ralph Shelton/Middlesex line.
