Gen. Coffee and Davy Crockett were colleagues in the United States Congress in the early 1830's. When an owner of a steamboat on the Ocmulgee River named his boat the "David Crockett," Davy sent flags for the boat by Gen. Coffee. Gen. Coffee presented them to the man, James Butts, and he was so elated to get those banners from Davy Crockett that he wrote him a letter of thanks. You can read some of those comments in ARTICLE 232. The "David Crockett" in all probability stopped at the river port of Jacksonville, Ga., because it ran from Darien to Macon.
