Massey Ferguson 35

This is my company vehicle! It`s a 1959 petrol engined Massey Ferguson 35 power output when new was 30 hp.
Still doing duty
The health and safetey police have swung thier big axe and declared her unsafe for use! This is despite 40yrs plus of work on my estate and no accidents. They have done a "Risk Assesment" and declared the engine has exposed moving parts and the hugely over engineered roll bar is not strong enough.. no tests by them of course, no questions directly asked at me... And of course the inspector is an experienced agricultural engineer...Not :( If its driven its now a sackable offence.
She now sits idle in the barn.

The setting of ground speed, is great if you use a square baler,get it cloggedup !! just back the tractor slowly and it will turn the baler PTO backwords, making it easy up un plug >

Very nice gallery. Interesting story, at first I thought you were jesting," Health and Safety Police" Im guessing that something like OSHA here in the States. And of course the Inspectors know it all....not Too bad they are great Old Tractors, I have worked on a few of them

I have a 1957 MF35 4cyl grey diesel. It is lovely! I spent a lot getting the engine re-built last year for its 50th birthday and have been smiling ever since. I have owned it for 24 years. Everything works. I had one owner before that. It gets used every week. Don't you just love them!

The PTO has two settings as you have found, the ground setting means the PTO is linked to the ground speed at which the tractor is travelling ie the higher the gear and the faster you are moving the faster the PTO will rotate.. ideal for spreading to keep the amount being thrown onto the ground at the same rate. The other setting is linked to the engine rpm and is independant of the speed you are travelling, and if you look on the tractormeter you will see a marking for 540rpm.. if you have equipment rated at 540 rpm you set the revs at this mark and the pto will now be working at the correct speed for the attached equipment. I`ll take a snap to illustrate when I`m at work

An old friend of mine has a Ferguson 35 the PTO lever has two slots! the lower slot has ground PTO writen on it could someone tell us what this is for Thanks

we have a 35x n it is a class tractor pity about the brakes on ours they don't work that well and when you stop you have to knock her out of gear and stand on the brakes. lovely detail in the pics n i love the hand throttle

Hehe! The groundsman of the cricket club next door had a leyland tractor. He was always borrowing our massey for gang mowing his outfield. He hated the leyland :}

When I was growing up on the farm you got streetcred for nothing if your armory didn't include at least one Massey! We had a crappy Ford. The shame, the shame! Well captured!
