I've used this and Harald's Black/White Styler for many, many years. I like the "soft blur" option in this mostly sharpening plug-in. I used the soft blur softening in FocalBlade on a duplicate layer and then used a layer mask to bring through the unfiltered original layer at the eyes, nose, and mouth. With dogs I find a touch of softening is more flattering than seeing every strand of fur.
Lighting was from two 76 watt halogen bulbs in table lamps on either side of the bed. The frame was created on a new blank layer by selecting it, adding a 15 pixel stroke in Photoshop and then using the bevel option (move the soften slider to get rid of angularity) in Layer Style.
