So that's what the noise was all about!

For weeks we've been trying to diagnose a flapping sound coming from the front of our car. I thought perhaps it was the front license plate which had been dented when a dog hit it (She was okay.) Today the noise got much worse, so much so that we heard additional dragging. We cancelled our plans to continue on to Weaverville to visit the Stoney Knob Cafe and instead went to Zen Sushi in Asheville. When we got out of the car and bent on our knees to check the undercarriage, we could see that something had fallen in front and completely covered the area through which light would come, had that assembly not fallen. We called Triple A for assistance and they said it would be at least 75 minutes before a man could come and he couldn't do anything unless we made an arrangement to pay him - noticed a Valvoline service station across the street and figuring they had wells, they might be able to help us - and so they did - pulling the part(s) off. No charge. This is Michael, the manager of the shop, holding what they removed. Very nice guy!

March 30, 2023! I just read the comment below and it proves I was and still am l very bad at math. In 2012 the car was EIGHT years old. It was a 2004 model! I believe this was taken when we were at the Doraville, George Farmer's Market, actually a huge place with Asian and world foods. It also had a great eatery.

Our NEW Acura is a six years old. The 99% used to have more expendable income.

Nice to know it was nothing major.

Reminds me when I had my brakes done, and I drive away from Big O Tires on Watt Avenue in Sacramento. About a mile away I hear a horrid noise like metal on the pavement and all I could think of was the term "drop the transmission", then I see my rear wheel roll past my drivers door....the mechanic had forgotten to tighten the lug nuts.
So it got towed back and they put the wheel back on saying everything was OK. I was too afraid to drive it far. Had another shop check it out and the backing plate was bent. So Big O had to order a new backing plate. This was in the late 70s and the car was a Mazda 616, one of the 1st Mazdas imported so not that popular then. The manager gave me a really dirty look when I said I was going to have it rechecked at another shop since they originally said all was ok. What I understand was that the axel could get damaged and break driving with a bent backing plate. Very scary situations.
