In past years I've had one or two tiny inedible fruit, but this year I was surprised to see so many fruit remaining on the tree. They were all on the side where the tree gets sun. Other side was bare.
I thought these wouldn't have to be harvested until October, but when they started falling off the tree and rotting, I decided to do a web search and find out when to pick them. Answer was when the are hard and just start showing color. This represents all of them minus three or four that were too far gone. I think I'll put the more colorful ones in the fridges and leave the greenish ones on the counter. These are a non-astringent variety and MAY be Meador. We bought two trees from J. E. Miller Nurseries in Canandaigua, New York, and I just found a bill from 2002 listing Meador as the variety of one of them. The other tree is in the shade and has had no fruit at all this year. Wish we had more sun.
