Bokeh (also boke): Pronounced "bo-kay." Refers to the out-of-focus areas of an image. Pleasing bokeh is velvety smooth and unobtrusive. Bad bokeh distracts fom the image subject. Here are some examples, neither of which is ugly to my eye.
