It took a few attempts to get the scan right without blowing out the highlights, eventually I dropped the scan light by a stop and then adjusted the curves to make it bright again.

See the huge difference between digital and film, James.
Drum scanning (costly) is the answer to extract the fine details and depth that provia film captures, however, you've done a nice job with the scanning on this one.
