Digital Noir

Do you ever hold a photo idea in your mind for weeks before taking it? So it was with this shot. It was almost as if it had to gestate before I could give birth to it. Maybe it was that we had to be watching the right show before I could capture the mood I wanted. If that's true, this DVD was perfect. On Friday Ed rented the original 1963 black & white TV series of "The Fugitive." On Saturday night we watched the first show. It may have been made for TV but to my eye it was a fabulous example of Film Noir. Just the mood I wanted for my photo. So here you have my Film--OK, Digital--Noir interpretation of a Film Noir TV show. As you can see, our TV set fits the retro "theme" of our entire house. No plasma screen here, just an old TV that has served us well since the 1980s.

I've just added this and three other images to my "Edward Hopper visits my home" gallery. CLICK HERE to see them.

Moonlight flooded the darkness of the room.
The TV was turned down low
An eerie tic toc, tic toc
The only sound heard.
The clock struck midnight nearly an hour earlier.
Still, I wait.
The TV flickering.
The clock ticking as minutes turn to hours.
You are late yet again.
And still, I wait.

Tic Tock... I hear a distant car door close.
Tic Tock... A turn of the key in the lock.
And still, I wait.

Film noir... wonderful. :) You can finish the story and
decide whether it has a happy ending or an ending befitting
film noir.

Great moment with the hand, that suggests an abstract "us" who escape to that box, from the reality of our days. K

This is like time travel, Patricia. It has been years since I've seen a TV set like that, or watched a black and white. What else but black and white could do it justice? The white arm is as jarring as the burned out screen -- and it is that jarring double shock that smashes the mood here and makes the image sing.

I remember perfectly the TV serie (1965, here in Spain) and all my family around the TV.
You have caught a wonderful atmosphere for this splendid work, where the choice of b+w is more than appropriate. -V-
