Leaves you wanting to see more, which is good. Nicely done. Alistair

A great shot Colin!

Funny how the microphone being in focus gives visual permission for the rest to be out of focus. The blur seems almost to suggest movement like their bodies, as well as their voices are in harmony. A very unexpected shot and nicely executed. brent

Colin, it is perfect. Mic is sharp, but the real focus is on the girls, if you know what I mean. Mic is not destructing and the girls are of real interest.

Nice pic; I like it. But my question is: How come they're NOT singing into a mic???
Guest 24-Nov-2007 15:48
I like the fact that the mike itself is in very sharp focus, since it translates the sound. Kinda symbolic.

Great idea and very well executed.

I like this one ! The group feeling is very nice, and the composition is right on with 2 strong lines. Well done !

I forgot to say thanks for the comments!
Shirely, I like your "vocal point" pun, that would have made a great title.
Several parents have asked me for copies of pictures, not sure how I can explain that the OOF was deliberate, I'll just say it was Marc's fault :-)

Believe it or not, I had seen the challenge theme before going to the kid’s show, so I was using manual focus – otherwise the E3 would just snap right onto the performers.
I did take some “real” ones too :-)

I don't think this shot would have been nearly as good if you had more DOF. I love how the singers are made the secondary importance of the shot becuase the microphone became the focal (ha or vocal) point. I really like this and a great example of what I imagined Marc was looking for too.

Colin,

The classic OOF :-) The camera just doesn't know.

Nice and sharp mike, btw :-) Good picture, though!

Claus.

That is a really nice microphone, Colin, I bet you could not wait to make print of this for its mommy to see.
I can’t tell how often I'd catch that damned tree twig in front of my cats nose instead of his beautiful eyes.
I like this picture because it makes me laugh and at my own perfectionism and makes me want see more of the face painting.
