Parsons calculates victory

Nevada City, California

Bob Parsons had won Nevada City three times in a row, and in this shot from 1966 he is about to win it again. The race that year featured an epic battle between Parsons, from Pasadena, and Berkeley's Dave Brink, the dominant rider in Northern California. I shot three rolls of film at the race but most has been lost. Notice Dan Butler on Parsons' wheel. Not a bad photo for a high school kid!

Thanks for these photos. It's so great that you made them in the first place, and now you have posted them for the world, and in the dimension of time. An action shot! You appear to have captured Parsons mid-shift. I note that Parson's use of bar-end shifters has given him space on the downtube for an unusual dual bottle-cage arrangement style. Usually the shift levers would be in the way of that uppermost one he's got. Thanks for getting in close as you did--also, it's great that you have the names of the riders.
