Barrel Cactus (Ferocactus Wislizenii) with Summer Poppy

Southern Arizona, Dragoon Mountains

This Barrel Cactus represents the first of many shots taken on this trip. I used the tilt shift to achieve the subtle effect seen here. In this case, I was able to shoot with a wide aperture with the plane of focus tilted to get the crown in sharp focus. The ground, covered by several Poppy Flowers, was kept soft and obscure but evenly out of focus.

I think this is my favorite image from the trip. It has a unique look of the tilt focus simply impossible to achieve with any other type of lens.

In this case, I did not use the Angle Finder-C but it would not be a bad option to use with the Tilt/Shift lenses. The 2X would not be of much use since it target only the center but even the 1X provides a better display of the image IMO.

I think this is also my favorite of the shots you've put up. I'd be curious if you used an anglefinder to help refine the focus. Just lovely series of images.

Thanks. I was going for that look. I wanted the crown in sharp focus while shooting at a substantial angle to it. Closing down the lens would cause an "uneven" bokeh and I did not want that.

nice shot, love the background contrasting with the super sharp(in more ways than one) foreground.
