Your tales always have the feel of sitting on a front porch of somewhere like the Last Resort, watching the world meander by and slowly ruminating on things that happened. Fantastic match with the image. V

Wonderful series Karen.

Nothing like a Sunday drive... I love the "last resort" I have heard to stop a dog from jumping the fence concrete blocks are tied to the collar...however have not seen it done or heard any positives for the practice.

What a fun tour, the cows are priceless! Voted

Wow that was some day you had, it sounds like a great road trip!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful images with us.

quite a ride.... I've never chased cattle down the road with my car or seen a dog run by with 2 dead rabbits tied around it's neck..... I would have felt like I was in a movie scene..... glad you had a Sunday off from work. I hope you have another one much sooner than another year from now...and take another adventure ride you can share :-)

Thanks for the virtual Sunday drive! Nice shots!

Thanks for the mini-trip. I enjoyed it. I'd have gone in for a beer though.

Xllnt story & photos, Karen. As a kid, we often would go on drives with the sole purpose of getting "lost"! The last resort truly fits it's name, eh? Love the last shot too ~ I think Gary has a good idea for ya ~ And Herb is right; you should take more days off!

Great story and photos.

Wow! A day with Karen! Great story. Reminds me of my aunt, who in her later years, learned to navigate her
home town by making only right-hand turns. I'm sure she got off the beaten path a time or two also.

You have a gift for "telling." Enjoyed your Sunday drive, though being the animal lover that I am, I cringed at the poor dog.

What a great adventure. Well told and shot. And the last shot makes it well worth it.

Too much fun!! that dog thing is dumb, though.... the folks who say the dog will hunt or won't hunt are right.

This is wonderful Karen and well put together. Love "The Last Resort" What an interesting building and interesting setting. LOL "Suicide cows". What wonderful encounters you had your drive was definitely not boring at all. GMV

Great photography, great story.
The back roads are always the best places to go, that's where our history is and where the scenery is the best !!!! Thanks for sharing.

Not many people can turn a trip to the store into an adventure.
But I love the way you did.

Al is so correct. "It's the way you tell em and take em that makes a wonderfull story.
Vote. I so enjoy your narratives along with your shot.

ROFL...makes me a little homesick (not the Last Resort, lol, just the whole environment there). Wonderful gallery!!! Vote.

Nice ones Karen.

I always enjoy your photos and narratives, Karen. You have a talent for turning the most everyday scenes into interesting photo-journalistic stories. The Last Resort looks like one of those places where you better know somebody before entering! :) WVA has Open Range???? LOL!
Great photos and story, my friend,
Dick:)

Wonderful story, as always, Karen. I like it about suicide cows. And very original method to teach hounds how to hunt. Beautiful virginian landscape at the end. Thanks for sharing.
Sheila26-Jun-2006 09:51
You could have had roast beef for 6 months if one HAD done the suicide dive heheh :-)
Fascinating looking watering hole, don't think I'd be game to go in for a drink though.
That is a lovely view from Cheesey Ridge. Glad you finally got a day off, Karen.
