Pied flycatcher

Dinas RSPB

Ficedula hypoleuca
The pied flycatcher is a small, flycatching bird, slightly smaller than a house sparrow. The male is mostly black on the upperparts and white underneath, with a bold white patch on the folded wing. Females are browner. It is a summer visitor and breeds mainly in western areas, spending the winter in West Africa.

This is the closest I've found to those in my garden. However, those in my garden have black stripe running from throat to 'wherever. It appears to be along the whole length. Is this the same bird? If not, any ideas?Penelope

My husband has just seen this bird in our very sheltered garden it was on a large connifer tree I thought they would have migrated by now just thought I should let you know I'm a member of the RSPB and live at Clacton- on-Sea Essex. Such a pleasure to watch the birds this time of year.

Beautiful capture of this bird. I like the catch light in it's eye and the
background. What lens are you using for these photos?
