Rajasthani Musicians (Ashok Viswanathan)

Author Comment:
taken in the old fort in Jodhpur. As I was walking around taking
pictures, I turned a corner and saw these two musicians sitting on an elevated ledge
playing traditional music. As I watched a stray goat decided to wander in and make
himself comfortable next to the musicians who for the most part ignored the visitor.
As I clicked this image I wondered if the goat belonged to one of the musicians or
just came in to rest and enjoy the sounds. The long white beard of the traditionally
dressed rajastani seems to compete for attention with the shaggy hair of the goat.
The incongruity of the scene is setting of two musicians and an amimal trying to
earn a living entertaining visitors to the fort. On one hand they are similar in
some ways ie the beards, tribal backgrounds and represent the past. On the other
hand they are also dissimilar in many respects.
