7/25: Pointless Macro

Here's the pointless story behind this pointless photo. As I was leaving for work, I noticed (again)
that my front lawn is very brown from lack of water in this ridiculous heat. I turned on the sprinklers
and sat on the front step. I set up my ultrapod, and slapped on the telezoom macro with a polarizing filter.
Then I set to 300mm macro mode, iso100, made the aperture as small as it would go (f32), and set the
shutter speed accordingly to 1/8s. I turned on mirror lock up, and used the remote to fire. I was
actually trying to capture a bunch of ants in this crack, but I was unsuccessful.
A truly pointless macro taken in the morning to fulfill my PaD duty.
Enjoy.

LOL! I thought surely there'd be something going on here, but no. Very funny shot.

Crack kills....:)

ahh... ants aren't daft you know!
Rochelle Weiss27-Jul-2005 17:01
Did you learn anything from it? That or even just the experience put into the process would make it not pointless. That is true abstract art!
Guest 27-Jul-2005 05:10
interesting!
Karen Leaf27-Jul-2005 01:13
I could open PS and grab the marching ants, if that would help.
Guest 27-Jul-2005 00:46
I thought that you were being nice and attempting to point out a bump in the sidewalk so we were all careful not to trip today. It's a macro on crack.
Guest 26-Jul-2005 22:26
pointless and excellent.
Stu26-Jul-2005 22:22
They obviously didn't want to be photographed!
uofmtiger26-Jul-2005 21:17

All these technical data are impressive but I have to say that I simply love the pointless feeling in this image. Bravo Jeremy!
Guest 26-Jul-2005 20:40
This has more comments than my best ever photo!! No fair!!

I can see a HUGE spder in that crack!
Guest 26-Jul-2005 17:25
I kinda like it! :) Someone needs to play in the sprinklers with his kids!
Guest 26-Jul-2005 16:52
Well, if you hadn't told your story, I would have thought: interesting abstract, with nice colours and textures ;-)

Now here is the saviour in digital, It costs nowt to try.
J. Scott Coile26-Jul-2005 16:09
Pretty busy huh??? At f/32 that is still quite shallow DOF. Hot here too.
Chris Sofopoulos26-Jul-2005 15:24
Hehehehehhh.... LOL... ..:)))
You made my day my friend!! Funny story and good try Jeremy.
Don't worry about the ants. You captured a great minimalistic composition.
Robin Reid26-Jul-2005 13:32
Better luck next time. ;-)
Dominic Kite26-Jul-2005 13:12
LOL, so close, yet so far. It's a familiar story!
Di26-Jul-2005 11:39

Karen Stuebing26-Jul-2005 09:13
Nice color and dof. There are also little sparkles and I love sparkles. Would make a great abstract. Have I missed anything? :) Seriously, it does show the capabilities of the lens. And where are the ants?
laine8226-Jul-2005 08:47
I can see an ant !!! I can also you have a lip of concrete that someone may trip on, sue you. Then your going to have to sell your camera, your computer, the house, the car.... LOL!! Excellent DOF!!
Guest 26-Jul-2005 08:02
i don't get the POINT?!?! :)
is this what the camera forums are about when they test their lens for backfocusing/frontfocusing/whether it focus at all? :)
Chris26-Jul-2005 07:58
I always say...eh. Take a picture of a bottlecap if you have to. This is all DOFfy. Maybe jude will think its 'yummy' :)
Guest 26-Jul-2005 07:12
You could Photoshop the ants in? Mind you, it's quite a riviting exercise trying to find the ants! ;)
