63rd

63rd Infantry Division:
The Blood and Fire Division.

The 63rd Division was activated as a component of the Army
of the United States on June 15th, 1943, with Headquarters
at Camp Blanding, Florida and had one change of station
before embarking for the European Theater in November of 1944.

The shoulder patch worn by the 63rd Division was approved on
March 27, 1943, and the design was based on a statement made
by Winston Churchill at the Casablanca Conference (a war
strategy meeting held between Roosevelt and Churchill in
January of 1943) that the "enemy would bleed and burn in
expiation of their crimes against humanity." A blood-tipped
sword is the instrument of justice and is set upon a sheet
of crimson flames.
