I did the photoshop work tonight but, the shot was taken while on a trip last Labor Day weekend. I took three days by myself and hit the road on my bike, traveled 150 miles in three days (most would say a leisurely pace) and this is my entire pack for the trip. When I tour on my bike I stay in motels and hotels and eat in the restaurants I find along the way. Some folks think bicycle touring can only be done with 60 pounds of gear and camping in fields and campgrounds found. Not this cowboy, give me the nearest Hilton (more often, some place like "No-Tell Motel" in a rural town en route) but a bed, table and a TV for Leno at night. My greatest desire is to do a complete trip across the United States on my bike.

Don, I am impressed and inspired. Very good work. Nice recumbent too. I have done similar solo tours on my bike. From Charleston, SC to the North Carolina line and back. Good for the soul.
PS. Thanks for visiting my galleries, too.

neat looking bike, Don
I have never seen one quite like this
Built for comfort not for speed I presume

Sorry I missed this till now. Excellent PS work Don and the photo is nicely composed. Its amazing what we learn about each other here at pbase. I know you've mentioned biking to work, but I never imagined you were such an enthusiast. I applaud your gusto and determination to cross the US, perhaps I'll be one of the cars that passes you. Look for me in Western Pa. : )
GMV!

Oh my, that is not much gear, you travel light. Sounds like a great time, you sure have to be fit, thats for sure. I took a ride on my 12 speed yesterday, first time out this season, and today, my legs are barking at me!

Ahh that's the way to travel.

Cool image. And very unusual bike! what a great attitude you have . . . probably a lot of us would do some bike touring if we didn't have a huge load to haul with us. A dslr and the lenses are enough! Cindy

The best part of travel is that motel & hot shower at the end of it. Good work Don.

As a rider myself, I know exactly what you mean. Those wheels mean freedom. Nice PS.

That was supposed to be "could" nor "ould"

Love the selective coloring! Even though it's not about the bike I really like the bike, it looks like the kind of bike I ould come to love. :o)

Great perspective man!

Nice bike and PP job.
I've done some commercial bike tours which take really good care of the rider.
But they are much pricier than your trips.
Is this your commute bike as well? Looks like a comfy ride.

its damn cool though!

GREAT PS work, Don! Love this pic! And what kind of bike is that? It looks so different -- so long, and the seat is unusual. I really like how you do bike trips!

About the photo, great selective color and composition!!
About your trip and your spirti of adventure I think is great!!! I don´t know if I could travel so light in gear. I´m going for camping with my family and other 9 or 10 families more, but we are going in our cars up to our place for camping and there we going to place our tents. Lets see if I can come back with some photos from the mountain!!
You can see some photos about that group in this gallery:

I'm impressed. If you get to Louisiana "Perilloux hotel" will be open to you.

Wonderful selective coloring! Sounds like fun!

this is a really good picture. perhaps more appreciated by someone who has done that sort of thing too, and understands that, indeed, it is not about a bike.. ;)

I love the selective color! That sounds like a wonderful adventure!
Robin Reid11-May-2005 00:44
