Holy Cross School for Boys--One of the Oldest Private Catholic School for Boys in New Orleans

New Orleans, Louisiana

My father was a boarder and star athlete here in the late 1800's and our three sons graduated from here, also. Our grandson will graduate exactly 100 years after his great-grandfather in May, 2006.

December 9, 2005--IT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT HOLY CROSS SCHOOL WILL MOVE TO ANOTHER LOCATION IN NEW ORLEANS OR JEFFERSON PARISH. Another part of New Orleans' history destroyed by man made catastrophe.
I think that of all the horrible things that have occurred during and after Katrina to me, my family and friends and my City, this is at the top of my grief list.
October 2006 - A decision was made by the Board of Directors and the Holy Cross Brothers to relocate to 5500 Paris Avenue in New Orleans. A new school will be built and the historical gazebo and plantation bell will be taken to the new location.
September 19, 2013--Br. Robert Hampton, Headmaster of Holy Cross on Dauphine from 1964-1980 died. He will be remembered as the one who helped thousands of citizens when Hurricane Betsy flooded the Ninth Ward in 1965 and as a leader in education in New Orleans and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Rest in peace, Br. Robert.

Corrections: I meant 1879 for Holy Cross, of course. Also, Jesuit's current campus opened in 1926.

Just as I remember and see HC in my mind -- the sunlight, the bricks, the Gazebo, the trees. When I think of home now as an adult in Atlanta, this is the image I see along with Jackson Square.

I don't know how you did it, but somehow you captured everything I love about Holy Cross with this picture. The love, the hope, the dreams, and the magic that those grounds contain and inspire are all in this photograph. This photo brings tears to my eyes. I would love to have a couple of copies of it. One for my mother and father, one for myself, one to give to my brother as a graduation gift, and finally to Tony Rodi, a man whom I have more respect and admiration for than I do myself. I would gladly purchase them from you.

I am sketchy on history, but I believe that I am one of the only phyisically disabled students to graduate from that school and it was never thought of.

This is how i am always going to remember the school grounds. I have left my e-mail with my name. Please feel free to contact me.

Wonderful shot of a gorgeous building; love the tree framing! Nice lil history too!
