Jul 18: Inspired by...

Inspired by, if not really in the style of Bill Brandt, who's retrospective exhibition we visited today. Two things about his work made me think. It's OK to have 'stuff' in the background, and secondly, it's OK to loose some detail in the shadows. So here's me in the spare room, natural daylight, a real room with real stuff in the background, and lot's of dark bits. Well, I like it.

I like this as well. I like the more candid feel, with a real room in the background. The tone and contrast work very well. Nice job!

Have you seen the Bill Brandt portraits at the NPG? They are running as a sort of complementary show as part of the retrospective.

I agree.. but i also believe there would be a great deal of difference had you left it color. The b&w tones make this cohesive... color things in the background would be distracting. Well.. just my opinion anyhow...lol. I like more candid shots like this also.

You got rid of the spiky quilt then??

I like this too, David. The shadowing and low light work well with the expression on your face.

It does look like a comfy room, and a comfy photo. You may have started a new trend...
