“Nil, Nil #1” by Shadi Ghadirian of Tehran “ … juxtaposes shiny red high heels and army boots with a small bloodstain on the toe. One of the high heels faces the open door, ready to go out, while the army boots face away from the door, one leaning up against the wall. The frozen dance expresses the female desire to be free, as it confronts the male preparedness for warfare and injury.”
Unfortunately there were lots of reflections in almost all the pictures, which made them difficult to photograph, although non-flash photography was encouraged by the museum. I went back today to try again to photograph this one, but the reflections were just impossible no matter where I stood. I tried to fix it up a bit in PS, not too successfully, but hopefully the sense of the photograph will come through.
