20160620 6771 SERIES - Racoon.jpg

THE CROSSING!

Posting 4 of 4 (final) in a SERIES of postings of a mother racoon and five kits crossing a creek to a sewer pipe on the other (west) side. I've numbered the kits #'s 1 to 5 with # 1 being the first to swim to the other side and the first to enter the sewer and # 5 being the last even though it was the second kit to arrive at the water's edge.

Note: See http://www.pbase.com/hankvv/image/163548854 for posting 1 of 4 in this SERIES, then "click" "PREVIOUS" "PREVIOUS etc. to see all four SERIES postings.

Top Image: Well, Kit # 5 is still on the rock on the far (east) side of the creek testing out the water, so to speak, when Kit # 4 enters the sewer to join the rest of the family.

But, the need for Mom is greater than its fear of water, so it decides to leave the rock and.....

.....look for a better place from which to start the crossing. It seems to have found one here, but.....

.....no, its still too intimidating. So, it......

.....moves an other couple of feet (60 cm) down stream and finally takes the plunge.

The swim across went well. Here it approaches the west shore. It then scrambles up the rocks towards the sewer pipe, but alas......

.....Mom and the others appear to have disappeared into the sewer. Now, what to do?

At this point I ran out of film, LOL. But, we did see it enter the sewer where I'm sure Mom was still impatiently waiting for her little straggler.

THE END (This whole episode took about five minutes.)
