A very nice image and tribute. We were at our local Irish Club last Sunday to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising. V

Thanks for the explanation, Alan. I was having a hard time understanding the signs so really didn't have a clue.

good that the people of Ireland commemorate those valiant rebels...their bravery really got the ball rolling..it took a few more years, but independence was ultimately achieved..

@Helen Betts; it's unusual for Mairéad to miss including commentary in her postings (I suspect she'll come back to it when she's able) but I'm betting on it being one of two things:
(a) Either a bespectacled 1980's Scottish band declaring that "(they) would walk five huuundred miiiles"; or, probably more likely now that I think of it,
(b) A commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Easter 1916 Irish uprising, which included a proclamation of the Irish republic. (Not that proclaiming it immediately made it so, of course, but it set the wheels in motion to a greater extent than they had been.)

Of course there's nothing to say that it couldn't be a combination of the two.

It's an interesting scene, but what are they proclaiming?
